Federal Reserve Appointee Withdraws from Nomination

Senator Manchin had publicly opposed her stance on energy.

On Monday, Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia announced his opposition to President Biden’s nominee to the Federal Reserve Board. The president had nominated Sarah Bloom Raskin as Vice-Chair of Supervision, but Senator Manchin disagreed with her position on strategic investments in clean energy to move away from fossil fuels. The West Virginia senator believes such actions would negatively affect the economy. Ms. Raskin withdrew her name from consideration for the board the following day.

“Now more than ever, the United States must have policy leaders and economic experts who are focused on the most pressing issues facing the American people and our nation – specifically rising inflation and energy costs,” Senator Manchin said. “The time has come for the Federal Reserve Board to return to its defining principles and dual mandate of controlling inflation by ensuring stable prices and maximum employment.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for senators as they vet and hear from the president’s nominees.
  • For members of the upper chamber as nominees come to the floor for a vote.
  • For all members of Congress as they deliberate and vote on legislation.
